🧠"Brain: The Real Superman Within Us"

🧠 World Brain Day

Today, the world pauses to honour the most powerful, most complex, and most underappreciated organ in the human body—the Brain.

It’s not just an organ.

It’s our story, our strength, our superpower.

Weighing only about 1.5 kilograms, it contains over 86 billion neurons, forming trillions of connections—more than stars in our galaxy. This soft, silent marvel controls everything: our heartbeat, breathing, thoughts, feelings, memories, movements, and even the way we love or grieve.

🦸‍♂️ Why we call it “Our Inner Superman”

  • It adapts – When parts are injured, the brain doesn’t give up. It finds new pathways. This is called neuroplasticity—a miracle we witness every day in rehabilitation.
  • It remembers – Your first teacher’s voice, your mother’s smile, your favourite song—everything lives in your brain.
  • It protects – It filters harmful thoughts, regulates stress, and helps us stay emotionally balanced.
  • It creates – Every idea, invention, painting, poem, or piece of music begins in the brain.
  • It communicates – Through speech, gestures, expressions, or even silence—it's the brain that connects us to others.
  • It hopes – Even in the darkest days, it pushes us to dream again.

🧠 In Neurorehabilitation, we meet this Superman daily

As rehab professionals, we have the privilege of watching injured brains fight back. A stroke survivor learning to smile again. A TBI patient recognizing their family after months. A child with cerebral palsy taking their first independent step.

It’s not magic.

It’s the brain’s will to live, adapt, and grow.

And behind that—compassionate, consistent care.

💡 Let’s take care of our superhero

We owe our brain some care and gratitude. Here's how:

✔️ Feed it well – Leafy greens, berries, walnuts, fish, and hydration all matter.

✔️ Train it – Read daily, learn a language, solve a puzzle, or journal your thoughts.

✔️ Rest it – Sleep is the brain's recharge time. Never skip it.

✔️ Move for it – Exercise boosts blood flow and brain chemicals like dopamine and serotonin.

✔️ Protect it – Wear helmets, avoid toxic substances, manage lifestyle diseases.

✔️ Calm it – Deep breathing, meditation, nature walks—silence is also medicine.

✨ A Thought to Reflect

“The brain is wider than the sky.”

— Emily Dickinson

It truly is. It holds worlds inside us.

On this World Brain Day, let’s honour this quiet superhero by promising to care for it, respect its needs, and believe in its strength.
